At a young age, I was fortunate enough to experience many parts of the world. Travelling was a custom and a blessing within my household. I grew up with a family of five individuals; my older brother (28 years old), my younger sister (16 years old), and my parents who have been happily married for 24 years. My mom was exposed to a life of traveling from her mother and her travel bug emerged and stuck with her. As a result, my mom introduced my dad to a life of traveling and they both saw the value and joy in it. Consequently, they made a conscious decision to bestow the same experiences, principles, and values into their children.
I still remember all of the trips my family and I went on. My first travel memory, that still feels like it was yesterday, was every child’s dream place, Disney World in Florida, USA. Unfortunately, it was not the ideal trip for me as one would think. At that time I was obsessed with Mickey Mouse and I could not wait to visit the Mickey Mouse house, but when I did, I was a very disappointed kid. As a child, that’s when I realized certain aspects in life were made-up and lies existed. Mickey’s house was fake, it was all fabricated and when you saw Mickey it was very obvious he did not even fit into the house Disney portrayed it to be. I was heartbroken and probably the only kid that was angry at Disney World. However, if I had never traveled to Disney World, I probably would have never known the truth about anything. Traveling throughout my life has taught me many things and helped shape me into the young woman I am today. It has broadened my horizons, helped me stay open-minded, and allowed me to become very cultured.
Throughout my travel experiences, I noticed I had a huge interest in the culture and traditional clothes everyone wore. I always wanted to reside and eat where the locals did and really immerse myself in the culture. I loved learning new languages, country customs and train of thoughts. I started to love the different prints, fabrics, and style of dress. I knew I always had an interest in clothes generally and personally, but my creativity ran wild when I traveled. This is when I started to subconsciously incorporate certain countries’ clothing into my everyday
wardrobe. I always wanted to try something new and incorporate culture into my closet but most importantly, into my lifestyle. I wanted to learn the culture, but ultimately I wanted to embrace the culture.
When I birthed CL Styles, I knew I wanted it to be all about culture and traveling. As a result, my signature slogan is “Travel W. Style.” When I travel to various places, I always try to incorporate a piece of clothing or any cultural aspects into my photoshoots, etc. CL Styles is about making the culture come to life. In addition, this company is one that emphasizes inclusiveness with individuality, people and everyone from different backgrounds, ages, and sizes. Traveling is all about the lessons you learn along the way, making the world your temple.
